News From The Lab

2016

December 17 - Successful NOAMA application!

Our lab is excited to be a part of a collaboration with Drs. Sheri Wark, Simon Lees, Paolo Sanzo and Carlos Zerpa. Our study will investigate an exercise intervention strategy following concussion. My laboratory is particularly excited about our growing event-related potential (ERP) research program!

December 1 - New spinal fMRI paper is out!

The latest results of my continuing collaborations in the spinal fMRI world have been published in PLoS ONE!  Our paper led by Dr. Patrick Stroman (Queen's University) reports signal variations in the cervical spinal cord attributed to descending modulation. Check it out HERE.

May 28 - Congratulations Shayna, Andréa, and Andrea!

Three members of the Lawrence-Dewar lab received their degrees during Lakehead University's spring convocation.  Shayna Parker and Andréa Hantjis completed their Masters in Health Sciences with specialization in gerentology while Andrea Pepe received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. I am so proud of all three and excited that they remain connected with the lab!

May 3 - New additions to the lab!

In May Lakehead University undergraduate students Iggy Osmulski and Maria Kisselgoff will be joining as part of the Summer School in Medical Imaging.  Welcome Iggy and Maria!

March 3 - Successful funding from NOAMA!

The lab is excited to be a part of a behavioural and imaging study of a physical intervention for fibromyalgia! Our team is made up of clinicians (Drs Wesley Fidler and Bryan MacLeod), and researchers in the School of Kinesiology at Lakehead University (Drs Carlos Zarpa, Paolo Sanzo and Erin Pearson) and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Dr. Simon Lees) in addition to myself. I will be leading the neuroimaging part in which we will be conducting analyses of sensory and motor function using MRI. The next few months will be spent applying for institutional ethics boards approvals and we hope to start the study by the end of the year.

February 5 - St. Joseph's Care Group Showcase of Health Research

Andréa Hantjis gave an oral presentation of some of the research she has recently completed as part of her Master's in Health Science thesis at Lakehead University.  Andrea used fMRI to examine differences in brain activity between 3 adult age groups during a visuomotor adaptation task.
